More about Waipa Networks
We have been a trusted name in the electricity industry for over 100 years. Waipa Networks owns and operates an electricity network that delivers power to more than 27,000 customers and are seeking an experienced Distribution Engineer to become part of the Waipa family.
Join us on our mission to provide cost-effective and reliable distribution network ready for the future. We strive to be recognised in our community as a leader in life-improving energy services and solutions. Your knowledge of electrical design and standard development will be instrumental to us achieving that goal!
About the role
You will report to the Network Development and Engineering Manager, focussing on managing and providing specialist support to Waipa’s design and construction standards and other engineering standards and processes.
This position is a pivotal role - linking the ‘office’ and ‘field’ and putting forward your engineering standard designs to withstand the test from time. This role effectively influences and controls all construction outcomes through standard implementation. Not only will you play a key role in our distribution network design and construction standards, but you are also a communicator and collaborator running the change management processes to bring new network equipment and materials into the network.
You have at least an NZCE qualification, with 3 to 5 years of experience with complex bespoke design, electrical design and/or standard development work.
You also have strong knowledge and experience in distribution or electrical designs, and electrical equipment, and fitting with a good understanding of how these relate to network and asset management. You have a good knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards, including health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and local authority rules.
Motivated by continuous improvement with razor-sharp attention to details, you are capable of relating technical details on paper to real life outcomes.
You have at least some exposure to field operation, practice, and construction processes, with a good understanding of how changes may affect various parts of the business and are competent in applying the AS/NZS7000 overhead line design framework.
To make standard and roll-out successful, you are no stranger to SiD, risk assessment, or life cycle cost analysis, and can use these principles to develop, justify and communicate standards and solutions.
Why join us
