Aurora Energy is looking for an experienced Protection & Control Engineer to join our Secondary Systems team. In this role, you’ll contribute to the reliability and safety of New Zealand’s electricity network through innovative design, analysis, and operational support.

About the Role
As a Protection & Control Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing, analysing, commissioning, and managing secondary systems assets across our capital and operational works programmes. You’ll be part of a collaborative team working on everything from protection settings and relay design to SCADA and RTU systems.
This is a busy and varied role with real impact, as you support numerous areas of the business such as asset lifecycle management, reviewing network incidents, and contributing to the safety and reliability of our infrastructure.

Who are you?
We envisage our Protection and Controls Engineer will have ideally 5+ years’ experience in the electricity distribution or consultancy industry, ideally with secondary systems and protection engineering. You’ll also possess:
- Proficiency in specialist software: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SEL Suite and Excel, to name a few key systems!
- Experience with SEL relay platforms, RTAC programming, and SCADA/RTU systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and ideally a valid NZ work permit, however we are more than willing to accept overseas applicants who have already started the process with immigration, to move to New Zealand!
Location Flexibility
While Dunedin is preferred, we welcome candidates based in Cromwell or Christchurch. If you're new to NZ or unfamiliar with the local network, we’ll support your transition.
